Why should I use the calculator before filling out the FAFSA?
While it is important to note that submitting a FAFSA is the only way to get your offitial SAI (Student Aid Index; formerly "Parent Contribution"), it helps to manage expectations and plan ahead.
For example, if you recieve an SAI of -1,500 then you may not need to seek financial aid advising if the applicable tax year didn't have any special circumstances or other complexities.
But if you received a high SAI and are not estimated to receive enough aid, then you will probably need a closer look. These calculators are great for surface level estimates, but there are other factors that impact your SAI on the FAFSA, and even more so on the CSS Profile (or other institutional aid applications).
How do we keep your information safe?
The Student Aid Index Calculator runs in your browser, meaning Tuition Aid Consulting does not automatically receive the financial details you enter.
After your estimate is shown, you may choose whether to submit your result for review. If you do, Tuition Aid Consulting receives your contact information, your calculator result, your reason for submitting, and your consent confirmation. If you ask to be considered for a need-based rate adjustment, your parent adjusted gross income and household size are also submitted so Tuition Aid Consulting can review basic eligibility.
Submissions are processed through a secure server-side function rather than directly through public-facing website code. This helps prevent private email credentials and CRM logging details from being exposed to visitors.
